The Unyielding Truth

What stops your progression?

Lack of dedication

Lack of motivation

And desire for education

Not for Higher Learning

But education about you

And what your will is.

Can you reach the ceiling?

Or is sky’s the limit.

What lies do you disguise with your broken mentality?

Hopefully before it’s too late you’ll come to reality

That drive should not only happen when you get in your car

No wonder why talking about dreams you only see one star.

Why do you consistently mimic the philosophy and ideology of long foretold?

That doors are automatically opened and pages should just unfold

How many times will you let roadblocks of life stand in your way?

Oh, I forgot, you told yourself “I have a plan today.”

Take a look in the mirror

And what does the face starring back at you tell you to do

Where is the proclamation

Declaration

And dedication

Of the real you?

The Road to Recovery

The road to recovery is every addicts dream
Focusing on prosperity of the future
And letting go of yesterday's extreme
The road to recovery is 12 steps starting with one
Learning to put the past behind
Simply, that song can't be unsung.
The road to recovery is instrumental
In order for the transformation to begin
Remembering as imperfect flesh
We all carry the burden of sin.

The Day You Left

The day you left my heart was so broken

No words remained that could now be spoken

As I looked at you with one tear in my eye

I had no energy to break down and cry

I knew this day was coming

But how do you prepare

When you spent so much time

Trying to care

The day you left I felt so lost

Love sometimes comes with misfortune

And cost

Taking deep breaths as a sigh of relief

I can finally breathe again

Now I feel whole

Searching for what was lost

Deep in my soul

The day you left I felt a little at ease

Realizing now I could finally find peace

The day you left was such a relief

It gave me an opportunity to reassess

The idea “time heals all wounds”

Accept the healing is to understand the belief

The day you left I felt so free

To start a new way of thinking

And just do me.

Infatuation

I glance at him

He glances back

Trying not to look at

Something that looks

Appears so desirable.

The smile,

The look,

He cologne he is wearing

Should I make this bold move

And just be daring.

The temptation is high

The temperature is rising

I can't believe this is new to you, is it surprising

My pulse is racing trying to catch up

with my emotions

My heart is beating rapidly

with just one thought of you

What is a woman to do when feeling this way

Is this something I will feel only today

Is it real, the way I feel, can it be denied?

Why is it so strong and unbearable to face

I know deep in my heart, he can't be replaced

Wake up, come back to reality!

What about the personality?

Secrets of a Sinner: From the Eyes of a Man

This is a story about a man who was
Strong enough to cheat but not weak
Enough to resist
But better yet, was he the one to insist.
I saw this lovely young lady walk by me
And my head just spun
I knew by looking at her
She would give me
One night filled with so much fun
She turned around and whispered in his ear
"Where is your girlfriend, wife or whatever you call dear."
He replied, "Please don't worry about her, she's not around
And she's not here."
Now, let's go somewhere quiet where we can be alone
I'll turn off my pager and even my cell phone.
As I arrived at home about a quarter to three
I recalled the evening I had that was filled with so much secrecy
I gently glided into bed thinking, "that was close but now I'm home free."
Suddenly, my lady rolled over and started looking at me
Where was I, what did I do?
"I can't remember the night's end,
Remember, I was hanging out with my buddy, my friend."

True to Self

I am freestyling on this white board
just looking to score
dunk, make a basket, get a touchdown
on what we call life.
I know I'm no rapper
just a poet by nature
designed to write on this open mic.
My lyrics are realistic
My flow is the sickest
I can relate on all levels
from wealthiest to riches
No powder puff sentences
just to make you buy it
I'm penning what I'm seeing
Writing what I'm feeling
Loving what I'm doing
Making you a true believer
Take a lesson
From this session
Anything can be done
Just use your senses
Never dismissing
What you have been given
Be true to self and
Find your true calling
And one day you'll be ballin
Doing what you love.

What Has Happened To Creativity?

Is displaying creativity recreating something that was done ten to twenty years ago but has a new spin? Will the definition of creativity vary depend on who you ask? Should creativity always be in an original format? Does everyone have the ability to be creative or does only a select few possess the ability to be creative?

The thought about being creative came about when thinking of things lately that feel awe to familiar. Example number one: The movie "State of Play" doesn't that feel a similar scenerio from "State of the Union." At first, glance it seems deja vu. The movie has not made it to the theaters yet; however, movie goers will be the ultimate judge. Example number two: Remember the song "Two Occasions." Not sure about everyone else but I like the original version, is it a form of expression if the original version is modified to accompany rap verses? You be the judge.

Don't get me wrong there are all sorts of ways of being creative and as we have seen through film and with music. The level of creativity will vary depending on the author and type of content being relayed to their desired audience. My stance to you is to base your level of creativity on your abilities and no one else's. Explore your gifts and embrace your talents! We all have the ability to be creative, but in what-we have the answer.

Remember this phrase when thinking about being creative.

Gs to Gents Update:

I am not sure if any of you watch reality TV. I watched season one of Gs to Gents which was a show produced by Jamie Foxx and hosted by Fonzworth Bentley. The show was intended to turn men into true gentlemen. Each week they were presented with challenges such as using proper diction and how to display chivalry.

I must admit it was hilarious at times an even down right sad at others. These guys are men women have to choose as husbands, how sad. Thaddeus aka Creepa won the first season. I found a link that shows what he is doing now. I guess reality TV can impact people to change. You be the judge!

Reflections of Yesterday

Often times, we reflect on yesterday. Thinking what could be, if only as the saying goes. What does the footprints left in the sand say about you? What stories and paths are footprints of roads once traveled? If the waves of the sea could erase one set of footprints you have taken, how would you choose? How deep of impression did you make? Often impressions are made where they are barely seen or they can pierce deeply into the sand to leave a lasting impression.

Reflections of yesterday

Thinking of what was
What could be
And what is to become
Living this life in the present
And not reflecting on yesterday
Or
Anticipating in this life what will be tomorrow
Reflecting on circumstances of pain and sorrow
Anticipating the future
And all the good things to come
Delighted to see the birth of a new day
Possibilities to correct wrongs
Not looking back
And focusing on what has been
But what is to become
Creating an extension for
Promise
Solace,
And growth.

Why Not be Natural?

Remember, the lyrics to an India Arie song where she penned the phrase "I am not my hair." Just think back to the comment, he/she has good hair? Many of us at one time or another has either thought or said such a comment. Just think, what is good hair? If taken care of properly, one can argue we all have good hair. Does straighter, curly locs represent the benchmark for good hair? Is it possible for the stereotype of what good hair is to ever dissipate? Not in this lifetime!

Why not be natural! Being natural means having a sense of "purity" so to speak or a lack of being artifical or fake. Thinking back as a young girl, it was not acceptable to wear my hair in a way that did not appear straight and silky. My grandmother would often refer to my hair when it was longer and straight as "good hair." So, when deciding to wear my hair natural and leave chemcial based products alone, does that mean my hair is no longer "good"? It is very suprising to see over the past few years, the number of women who have made the transition from relaxers or "perms" to being natural or as what some would refer to as the "nappy" look. The reasons in which individuals decide to become natural is a personal choice. Some do it for religion, others do it for health or to follow the trend of the modern days style. Whatever the reason, each individual has to make a personal choice about what works for them. Going on three years, with being natural, it is one of the best things I could have done. I am not concerned if people do not like the choice I have made. The decision to leave the chemicals alone has worked for me. It has made me more conscious and aware of not only what I am putting on my body but what I am putting in my body.

Before the idea of being natural is dismissed, think that by being natural, you are being yourself and being real. So, why not be natural?
